The Commission is assisting an investigation by the Komite Nasional Keselamatan Transportasi (KNKT) of the Republic of Indonesia, which is investigating an accident involving a PAC 750XL aircraft registered PK-SNU operated by Smart Cakrawala Aviation.
The reported circumstances were that on 25 August 2025, the aircraft experienced an engine failure and was attempting to make an emergency landing at Mozes Kilangin International Airport at Timika, Papua, but crashed about 150 metres from the beginning of the runway. The aircraft was substantially damaged. There were no injuries to the two crew or one passenger.
New Zealand is the State of Manufacture of the aircraft. TAIC has opened this inquiry under section 8(2)(e) of the Transport Accident Investigation Commission Act 1990 – for the purpose of cooperating and coordinating with another accident investigation organisation, including taking evidence on their behalf.
