New chief executive for TAIC

The Transport Accident Investigation Commission (TAIC) has appointed Martin Sawyers as its new Chief Executive. 

Mr Sawyers takes up the role today, 8 June 2021.

Mr Sawyers comes to TAIC from being Chief Executive and Registrar of the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board. Prior to that, he led corporate services at the Real Estate Agents Authority and managed legal operations at the Department of Corrections. And he brings solid governance experience from his years as Mayor of Buller District Council and Chair of Buller Electricity Ltd. Mr Sawyers is a lawyer and before all this spent 18 years in private practice.

TAIC Chief Commissioner and Board Chair Jane Meares thanked incumbent chief executive Lois Hutchinson, who is retiring after fifteen years’ service, and wished her well for the future.
