The New Zealand Transport Accident Investigation Commission (TAIC) is assisting an Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) investigation into an engine failure or malfunction involving a Boeing 737-838, enroute from Auckland, New Zealand to Sydney, New South Wales, on 18 January 2023.
ATSB asked (under ICAO Convention Annex 13) for New Zealand’s assistance, and TAIC has appointed an accredited representative and opened an inquiry under Section 8 (2)(e) of the Transport Accident Investigation Commission Act (To cooperate and coordinate with other accident investigation organisations overseas, including taking evidence on their behalf).
ATSB’s investigation is continuing and will conclude with a final report by ATSB.
