Include mountain flying in the training syllabus for Private Pilot and Commercial Pilot Licences (Aeroplane), as is the case for helicopter licences. [Repeated as part of SR 023/02 (investigation 02-001) on 19 July 02.]

Reply: [It was planned that this recommendation would be implemented by] considering the recommendation as a request for the amendment of the relevant Advisory Circular to Part 61. [It is expected that this recommendation will be complied with by the end of 1997.]

Safety Recommendation 078/93

The training syllabus for the New Zealand Commercial Pilot Licence (Aeroplane) be amended to include "Mountainous-terrain flight training" and the extent of training required be similar to that already specified in the case of Commercial Pilot Licence Helicopter, and the requirement be applicable prior to the validation or conversion of foreign Pilot Licences to equivalent New Zealand Pilot Licence[s]. Reply: These recommendations will be given due consideration during a review of CAR Part 61 and the development of new CAR Part 135.
