Rail RO-2023-101: Hi-Rail vehicle collision near Te Puna, 86.43 km East Coast Main Trunk line, 10 January 2023
TAIC calls on KiwiRail to improve training for HRV operations and soft skills; and to make it easier for supervisors to do their work safely. On a curve in the rail line, a Hi-Rail vehicle drove into another HRV that was stationary. One worker injured. This incident is a further example of a new matter of great concern in the TAIC Watchlist -- the safety of workers maintaining New Zealand's railways.
